Books by Daryl

A bunch of years ago I thought it would be fun to take one of my books and personalize it for the entire school and "Do Pirates Go to School?" was the perfect choice.  The students got to see their school's name on the cover of this fun story and their favorite teachers' names on the pages of the story book and they loved it, so I now offer it at every author visit.

The process is simple, you supply Daryl with an up-to-date staff list. 

The information and last names will then be placed into the book based on what job they do at the school.

 What to include on the list:

• The staff's last names
• What job each staff member does at the school next to the name
• He needs the year the school was put into service.
• He needs to know what your school mascot is.

 In the book there are blank signs and wall plaques as shown above where that names will be placed throughout the book. 

There is a spot for everyone!

Custodians

Everyone will be placed inside.

 No! No! No!  Make sure the staff list you e-mail is not a photocopy or a locked unalterable document. 

Daryl must be able to cut and paste from your document to the design file.  Typing names into the design file must be avoided.

 Why cut and paste and not type?

• Typing takes more time.
• To avoid mistakes

Using the cut and paste method means the only mistakes that end up inside the book are ones that are already on the staff list. Those mistakes are usually found before the book goes to print. But most important rarely even there.

 What type of file is, okay?

• Google /with permission 
• Word
• Excel  

The school will be sent a PDF of the finished book, as well as the printers proof copies of the book to share with the kids. The proof copies are the actual book printed up for editing purposes. Use the proofs and the PDF for student preparation, the PDF looks great on the smart board. 

 Yes, most schools do what we call an author visit pre-book signing sale. Your school's book will go on the order form along with all Daryl's published books. All the books are made available for staff and students to purchase.

 Daryl will email the event coordinator a PDF of the order form and then that can be photocopied and sent home with the kids.

 If a school is in the middle of a book fair offering only the school book for sale is a great option. As it is a personal token of the day and of that school year and it's likely not going to intrude on the school's fair.
