Family & Literacy nights

For parents, grandparnents and kids of all ages.

  •  Bringing parents and children back to school after a long day is always a challenge, and even more challenging is finding an author who can engage this type of audience. This is a tough ask for most authors.


  • An evening audience is going to be comprised of Mom's, Dad's, grandparents, and kids of all ages. The audience is often filled with complete families, babies swaddled, toddlers toddling, and others, all the way up to those why couldn't I stay home teenagers. 


  • This type of audience needs to be entertained and actively engaged, and no one is more suited to take on this task, than Daryl. 


  • Daryl's use of music and storytelling is captivating at any age. His personal retrospectives of his children and family are relatable to parents, and his use of their children during his live event shows will leave everyone with smiles on their faces. 

 

  • So, what will keep everyone engaged ..., Daryl will! 


  •  The show will be filled with music, singing, storytelling, big bold graphics, live performance, humorous retrospect that parents and kids can relate to. But best of all, lots and lots of child participation. Daryl's "Do Pirates Go To School?" reader's theater will end the night with a bang. 

(Assembly Runs 50-60 minutes)

 Daryl's family event programs are high energy and visually engaging.  The storytelling is lively and animated, and the audience participation is weaved throughout the show, from the first sing-along song to the "Do Pirates Go To School?" readers' theater finale.

Not only will the children love the music and stories, but the parents will be
entertained and delighted as they watch their children become actively involved in the program.  (Music and Stories are adjusted to make each show is age appropriate.)

How will Daryl engage you children?

 The day usually starts with song: As the students enter, they will find Daryl playing the guitar and singing. 


(Music is adjusted to suit grade level attending.)

Topic Talks are removed from K-1 "Music & Storytime."

  • Topic Talks are removed from all K-1 programs.
  • Most stories and songs are designed to include audience participation.

Music & Storytime (Pre-k-2nd)

Sing-a-longs / "Monkeys"

For a lot of authors Pre-K, K, and 1 can be a hard audience to keep focused. But Daryl's "Music & Storytime" program bounces along from song to song and story book to story book with so much energy, movement and activity that these little students have no time to get restless. The music is an attention grabber!

Pirates: Readers' Theater

Pirates' readers' theater is both fun and interactive. Daryl works his way around the audience and gets the students and teachers actively involved.  This skit is used during "Music & Storytime" and "A Writer's Journey - Primary".

Kayley's Room / Topic Talk "Details"

For younger kids "Kayley's Room" is simply presented as a song with corresponding photographs for the student to refer to. (As presented in this video clip.) For "A Writer's Joureny" programs this composition is used as part of a Topic Talk to teach kids how to come up with detail for their stories.  

"Bill the Bat Loves Halloween" Live Action Reading

For younger kids "Bill the Bat Loves Halloween" is presented as a story with corresponding illustration to demonstrate the illustration process. (As presented in this video clip.) For "A Writer's Journey" programs this story is used as part of a Topic Talk to teach kids how to use real-life/small moments in their stories.
