They sat on the ground at the top of the hill.
As the warmth of the day took on a slight chill.
An array of colors now painted the sky,
as the sun slowly said its final goodbye.
The moon took its place, as the day turned to night.
It was big and round, with the brightest of light.
It now seemed so close they could touch it at will.
Cal the cat stood up followed closely by Bill.
Their hands reached out and grasped in the air,
but no one came close to the moon that hung there.
“The moon and the stars don’t look far away.
I just want to touch it," they heard the bat say.
I think I can do it; I know how to fly.
I will fly straight up; I should give it a try.”
“You should, yes, you should,” said Cal the cat.
“Such an amazing feat for one tiny bat!”
“You don’t see a bat on the moon every day.
A flight to the moon is impressive, I’d say.
